trollop

trollop
A word used to describe a woman who is either slovenly or sexually loose. Modern women are perhaps less likely to be called trollops than were their sisters in the eighteenth century.
Thomas Wolfe may have been right to illustrate contemporary usage as that of a concealed endearment, used by a speaker who is being consciously archaic.
In The Web and the Rock occurs: ‘O you damned, delectable, little plum-skinned trollop! I will eat you like honey, you sweet little hussy!’ ‘How have you got the heart to call me names like that?’ says the woman concerned. ‘Because I love you so! That’s why! It’s love, pure love, nothing on earth but love!’ Like Any Other Man, by Patrick Boyle, has an Irishman saying to his lover: ‘Why don’t you mind your own bloody business, you meddling trollop?’
